Bagels Near Me is a long term, work in progress documenting bagels and the people who love them. Bagels were
invented because it was illegal for Jews to bake bread in 17th century Poland, but ever since then they’ve been a sweep-
ing sensation which brings delight to different kinds of people all around the world. To break bread with someone is an
act of communal bonding and care which breaks down boundaries, and for that reason I think that making pictures
of people enjoying bagels is the perfect vessel for discussing the notion of diaspora and what it means to be Jewish today.
